“About 2 years ago my twin daughters began playing soccer at Magnuson Park through Arena Sports. This has been a fantastic development for our whole family, encouraging all of our physical fitness throughout the year. My daughters and their friends have learned new skills through the classes at Arena Sports and have also learned the value and fun of exercise. Their team, the Silver Sharks, has also allowed them to meet and bond with kids throughout Seattle, not just the kids from their school. After seeing our girls play, 4 of the Silver Shark fathers also started playing indoor soccer. In my case, I hadn't played a sport in more than 10 years. I've improved my own fitness and found a new source of enjoyment at the same time!” - A.W.

“At the indoor volleyball courts, I have made wonderful friends and belong to a great community. I started out playing on a co-ed 4's team once a week. By meeting more people I started playing women's doubles, co-ed doubles and co-ed 4's plus a free weekly clinic with some of the top players in the area.

Volleyball is my huge stress reliever. I know that if I am having a bad day or weekend, I can go to Area Sports and play volleyball and all my cares and worries are gone for at least that hour that I am there. …What a wonderful idea to have indoor beach volleyball because otherwise we really only get to play 4 months, at the most, a year. Now we can play all year around!

North Beach has one of the greatest environments to learn to play – beautiful garbage free sand, no wind, minimal sun glare and a wonderful support group of all these people who love volleyball. Volleyball players of all levels come to North Beach to play and I can't imagine losing a place that has positively impacted all of our lives.” – K.J.

“As a soccer dad, coach, and LVR Youth Soccer Club board member - and l can tell you unequivocally that Arena Sports programs have been a MAJOR benefit to my family.  Allow me to tell you about two success stories, and brag about my kids at the same time.

My older son Sam started in the Magnuson Lil' Kickers program at age 2, in their Hoppers and Jackrabbits classes.  We have very fond memories of the supportive first coaching he received. He LOVED it, so much so that he even requested a soccer clinic for his 3rd Birthday, which Kevin was happy to provide.  Sam just kept asking for more, and within a year had left Mom and Dad on the sidelines to play in the Micro leagues for ages 3-4.  He kept at these programs, one per quarter, and by the time he turned 5 he was playing in the Micro leagues for ages 6-7.

My younger son Benji had never played soccer when we adopted him in 2002, but immediately wanted to be like his big brother.  Arena Sports was there to ease him into this new adventure, offering just the right program for a 4 year old beginner.  That it comes at a recreational level is of no lesser importance, particularly because it has been so beneficial to his self esteem.

Finally, I started this note by referring by to two success stories, but in reality that should read three.  My wife, who has NEVER played organized soccer, got caught in the infectious enthusiasm of the game and recently joined the celebrated Soccer Mom's league started by Terri McCoy.  Another body keeping fit due to Arena Sports at Magnuson Park.

And to top it off, I am now playing in the over 40 league.  An entire family staying fit at Arena Sports!” - T.A.

“Arena Sports Magnuson keeps us all out of the rain and provides kids with healthy recreation. Please allow them to continue offering indoor sports and renovate Hangar 27 with no cost to the taxpayers. Evicting Arena Sports from Magnuson Park will displace thousands of families from affordable, healthy indoor recreation. “  -R.M. Lil Kickers

Kickers “Arena Sports has offered programs at Magnuson Park for nine years.  Evicting Arena Sports from the park will displace thousands of families from our access to safe, affordable, healthy indoor recreation in the City.  At a time when childhood obesity has risen to epidemic levels and rates of type II diabetes have skyrocketed, a proposal to remove indoor soccer (and other programs) at Magnuson Park is poor public policy.” - C.N.

“At Arena Sports, the teams I have coached, the Camp Fire group I have led included children of all income levels and abilities…what Arena Sports charges is very comparable to that of many Parks and Recreation programs. In addition I coach soccer with Lake City Soccer and Spring Soccer. The cost of these is quite in line with Arena Sports and space availability is the main reason many more cannot play in these other facilities. Arena Sports offers so many families an affordable option, that if taken away no other venue in Seattle will replace it.” - S. R. Coaching
